Shots like this are sold everywhere these days. From time to time, I found myself grabbing the ginger ones, largely because I love the fiery sensation and the flavour. I attempted a few variations at home using ingredients like honey, grapefruit, turmeric, pink peppercorns, limes, and so on. I concluded that, for me, keeping it simple leads to better results. I wanted something fiery, gingery, light, refreshing, and with no unnecessary sugar.
These shots have just three ingredients: ginger, apple, and lemon. Besides tasting great, one of these each morning will aid digestion and provide you with a boost of antioxidants.
Serves: ~600ml to 750ml
Prep: ~5 minutes
Ingredients
2x lemons
6x Granny Smith apples
Ginger (~750g)
Notes
Batch: If you only have a tiny food processor, like me, you can do this in two batches using one lemon, 3 apples, and half the ginger.
Bottles: I use 60ml bottles, which I found on Amazon.
Equipment
Muslin cloth
Food processor or blender
Mise En Place
Chop the ginger, leaving the skin on, into 2cm to 3cm thin circles.
Slice up the apple, leaving the skin on.
Add the ginger and apple to a blender or food processor, alongside freshly squeezed lemon juice.
The Blitz and Strain
Naturally, there is no cooking involved. Simply blitz the ingredients in the food processor until it becomes a soggy mulch.
Once satisfied, decant the mulch into a muslin cloth and rest it over a colander and pot or bowl. Enclose the mulch in the cloth and squeeze the liquid out into the bowl.
Using a funnel, fill up your daily shot bottles.
